Who’s the Overthinker…
It is a part of your psyche and body.
It is a nervous system state.
It is not the truth of who you are, despite ways you may have identified with it.
When the Overthinker is running the show…
You wake up already running through lists in your mind.
You feel everything moving very fast, and yet slow.
You overanalyse every word in a conversation, replaying it hours later.
You crave rest but are convinced that it’s only possible after xyz is ‘sorted’.
You’re smart, self-aware, maybe even successful, yet constantly managing yourself.
The Overthinker responds to discomfort by saying:
“I must understand exactly what’s going on in my inner and outer world.”
“If I can just understand it, I can solve it.”
“Once I figure it out, I’ll feel better.”
And that thinking, that reframing, works… up to a point.
Over time, the feelings and situations too big to “solve” this way stack up:
the emotional flood from criticism or perceived disappointment/disconnection from others.
the zombie shut down, or panic eject response, to intimacy and support.
the continual strategy switching in work and life goals, to “get” to the place where it will feel ok.
the exhausted body and unexplainable health/wellbeing issues.
In the attempt to solve and figure it all out, the Overthinker just compounds the issue.
Can we take the Overthinker… to paradise?
Where there’s space in your chest. You breathe deeply without even trying.
Where you’re able to truly rest and rejuvenate the body’s energy.
Where emotions are digested, without needing to make sense of every detail.
Where triggers are caught mid-spiral and navigated with relative ease.
Where flow becomes your baseline - at work, in relationships, and in self perception.
This flow state is only available when the body is on board.
It happens when your nervous system learns that safety doesn’t come from understanding. It comes from presence.
The Overthinker has ONE tool:

Talking it through endlessly with friends or therapists.
Bargaining, reframing, trying to convince yourself.
Over-planning, perfecting, and second-guessing every decision.
Your system learned that mental uncertainty = danger and emotional discomfort = threat.
So the overthinking kicked in to try and make life safe again.
It isn’t as simple as ‘stop thinking’.
It’s about learning to navigate discomfort and threat responses somatically.
So we can shift from fear state to flow state.
